The Columbia River's large population of white sturgeon offers fast and furious fishing with the chance of a true prehistoric giant on every trip.
White Sturgeon

Sturgeon fishing is one of my personal favorites. It’s an opportunity to catch a prehistoric fish.  During the month of May, the White Sturgeon that lives along the West Coast will be migrating into the Astoria, Oregon estuary. Sturgeon numbers will continue to build well into the summer months. These sturgeon are considered a bottom fish that roam around in slow-moving rivers, bays, and estuaries including the Lower Columbia. They are the largest fresh water fish in North America.  Their most prominent feature is the amazingly good sense of smell and taste.  While they are in the Lower Columbia Estuary, they spend their time gorging themselves on various different bait fish and fresh water clams.
